For over a century, The Alexandrian has existed as a sanctuary where rare literature is not merely collected, but restored, bound in fine leathers, and shared with scholarly fellows worldwide.
Named in honor of the ancient Library of Alexandria, our guild was established in 1894 by a council of Oxford scholars and master bookbinders who refused to allow masterworks of human philosophy, science, and poetry to perish from neglect.
We operate our own restoration bindery where vegetable-tanned leathers, 24k gold leaf hot-stamping, and acid-neutral Swedish rag paper are combined to forge volumes that endure for generations.
Seven Oxford scholars inaugurate the Guild with an initial endowment of 400 rare manuscripts and three hand book-presses.
The Guild acquires first edition impressions of Pope’s Odyssey and Iliad, initiating the Master Facsimile Program.
Launching 3D WebGL book inspections and worldwide courier lending, bringing tactile literature into the modern century.
Dedicated scholars ensuring every volume is treated with reverence and scientific precision.
